Enjoy traditional regional dishes and home-style cooking from the Echigo-Tsumari area, as well as our original takes on these classics.
Savor seasonal dishes made with plenty of local ingredients—such as rice from the Rice Fields and Tsumari pork—and fresh vegetables sourced from nearby farmers.

We offer a variety of homemade sweets, coffee, black tea, herbal tea, and drinks made with local ingredients such as snow-buried carrots and sarunashi.

【Interior】
The light blue interior features floor-to-ceiling glass windows and mirrored tables, creating an artwork (Jean-Luc Vilmoot’s “Café Reflet”) that reflects the seasonal scenery visible from the windows of Matsudai residents’ homes. Enjoy Matsudai’s cuisine while gazing out at the Rice Fields and the surrounding countryside.

"Wild Vegetable Buffet" (60-minute time limit)

Dates: Saturday, April 25 – Monday, June 1 *Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (excluding national holidays). Closed on Tuesday, May 7.
Prices: Adults: 2,500 yen / Elementary school students: 1,000 yen / Preschoolers: 500 yen (ages 1–6) *All prices include tax; drinks sold separately.

“Wild Vegetable Buffet” (60-minute time limit)
We’ve prepared our popular buffet lunch featuring a lineup brimming with the bounty of spring—all wild mountain vegetables. Grown in the snow-covered satoyama forests of Echigo-Tsumari, these wild vegetables sprout vigorously as the snow melts, offering exceptional aroma and flavor. Enjoy a buffet-style selection of wild vegetable dishes that generously feature seasonal ingredients such as butterbur buds, bracken ferns, and Japanese arrowroot, all based on local cuisine and given a modern twist.

This buffet-style meal features plenty of rice harvested right before your eyes from The Rice Fields, as well as fresh vegetables grown by local farmers you know personally. The menu offers about 20 dishes, all based on and inspired by local and home-style cuisine.

For the time being, reservations must be made online (with advance credit card payment). We anticipate high volume, especially on weekends and holidays. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please make a reservation before visiting.

NUNAGAWA Campus Special Exhibition: Ayako Fudamoto, “Sponge to Salmon (Nunagawa)”

We are hosting a Special Exhibition at the NUNAGAWA Campus featuring Ayako Fudamoto, an artist known for her three-dimensional artworks modeled after food and ingredients. An artist who visualizes the intersections and unexpected connections between food and the society in which we live, Fudamoto will present artworks inspired by the local cuisine of Echigo-Tsumari.

Matsudai NOHBUTAI Field Museum Matsudai NOHBUTAI (collective term for multiple facilities and artworks)

The Matsudai "Nobutai," a hub facility designed by the Dutch architectural firm MVRDV. Approximately 40 artworks are scattered throughout the roughly 2-kilometer stretch of rural landscape between the Matsudai "Nobutai" and Matsudai Castle at the mountaintop; this entire area is known as the "Matsudai NOHBUTAI Field Museum Matsudai NOHBUTAI."

Matsudai History Museum

This history museum is a renovation of approximately 140-year-old Keyaki Minka (traditional Japanese house made of zelkova trees) which represents typical structure of the region with heavy snowfall in winter and displays tools and documentations of lifestyle of Matsudai area.

NUNAGAWA Campus

Set in the former Nunagawa Elementary School, the "Children’s Five Senses Experience Museum" offers an experience that engages not only sight but all five senses, including hearing and touch. We also regularly hold workshops that encourage children to focus on artworks and the materials used in everyday life.

Shedding House

This farmstay (entire house rental) is housed in a 150-year-old traditional Japanese farmhouse that has been renovated into an artwork in its own right. Kurakake Junichi+ Nihon University College of Art Sculpture Course transformed this house—which had become a hollow shell due to the passage of time and changing eras—by carving into its structure. Through this process, they expanded the interior space, allowing the vacant house to shed its old form and experience a REBIRTH as an artwork. Please enjoy a rare experience that blends art and rural life, available only here.*You can take advantage of the takeout service for breakfast and dinner at Satoyama Shokudo.

Echigo-Matsunoyama Museum of Natural Science “Kyororo”

A museum dedicated to discovering and showcasing local resources under the theme of “Urban-Rural Exchange.” Approximately 40 artworks are scattered throughout the indoor and outdoor spaces. These works, which draw inspiration from the region’s history, local customs, people, and nature, allow visitors to fully experience the local culture through all five senses. We invite you to enjoy the art and the rural landscape as they change with the seasons.
