This artwork reveals a new facet of the house by carving every surface—walls, floors, and pillars—with a chisel. It took approximately two years to create, and the space, completed after a total of 3,000 man-hours of labor, envelops visitors with overwhelming power. The property is fully equipped with a bath, kitchen, and toilet. Accommodations are available for up to 10 guests across one room on the first floor, a living area, and one room on the second floor. Self-catering is permitted. It is ideal not only for families and friends but also for corporate retreats and student training camps. Amidst the overwhelming artistic space, the powerful presence of the traditional farmhouse, quiet nights, mornings with crisp air, beautiful The Rice Fields, and the slow passage of time in the countryside, please enjoy a luxurious, private overnight stay with your group or family.
The Hoshitoge settlement, home to the “Shedding House,” is also famous for the beautiful “Hoshitoge Rice Fields” (rice paddies built in a stepped pattern on the slopes of the mountains), known as the Tanada Steps. As a scenic spot, the “Hoshitoge Rice Fields” attract tourists and photographers throughout the year. These Rice Fields are “rain-fed paddies” that rely solely on rainwater and cannot be accessed by machinery, requiring a great deal of manual labor; however, the resulting rice is exceptionally delicious. Snowfall exceeding 3 meters, significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, and meltwater seeping into the mountains all contribute to the cultivation of this premium rice.
For guests staying at the art festival venues, we are now offering takeout breakfast and dinner from “Echigo Matsudai Satoyama Shokudo.” Even if your accommodation does not provide meals, you can still enjoy dishes made with seasonal ingredients from the Echigo-Tsumari region. We hope you’ll enrich your special time with the artworks with meals that showcase the bounty of the local area.
