About Space

A community space created in the first-floor corridor of the Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET. Designed under the supervision of Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., the company behind the MUJI brand, it has become an open space with a warm, inviting atmosphere featuring wooden tables and other furnishings.

Waterside ENNICHI in MonET

“En” is a unique Japanese word that encapsulates concepts such as “chance encounter,” “connection,” and “fate”—ideas that other languages express with multiple words—in a single character. Additionally, “Ennichi” is a summer tradition: a time-honored festival held at shrines and temples, featuring street stalls offering games like goldfish scooping and target shooting, as well as food and drink stands. People can enjoy themselves, play, and stroll about, experiencing a fleeting escape from their daily lives. In this exhibition, themed around “Ennichi,” we focus on a variety of games—both large and small—and present a collection of artworks that can be enjoyed alone or with others. In the corridor community space, we will offer a menu inspired by festival food stalls.
