"Australia House" Rice Harvesting Experience 2026

On Wednesday, September 23 (a national holiday), we will be holding a rice harvesting experience in the Urada district, where Australia House is located. We’ve borrowed a rice paddy from Mr. Takeuchi, a local resident who manages Australia House, to celebrate the harvest—the highlight of the rice-growing season. Why not join us and experience the golden harvest firsthand?

Echigo Matsudai Satoyama Shokudo: Satoyama Buffet

Our buffet-style meals feature an abundance of rice harvested from the Rice Fields right before your eyes, as well as fresh vegetables grown by local farmers you know personally. The menu offers about 20 dishes, all inspired by and adapted from local and home-style cuisine.

[Saturday, September 5] MonET Waterfront Night Market

Starting with kajii’s instrument-making workshops and performances, the museum will feature interactive artwork and remain open late into the night for a special evening event. Starting in the evening, food stalls will set up, adding a lively atmosphere to the museum. It’s a one-day-only special nighttime festival.

[Akeyama] A Gathering to Discuss the Future of Folk Crafts While Reading the Writings of Shuichi Takizawa

Shuichi Takizawa, a folklorist from Tsunan town, left behind numerous writings on folklore and traditional folk tools. We will hold a gathering where we will read these writings together with his daughter, Yumiko Takizawa, and discuss the future of traditional folk tools.

[Running on September 13 and October 25] JIKU #013 HOKUHOKU-LINE

"JIKU" is a series of projects that uses light to express the regional axes—as well as the axes of Point of View and history—that have been obscured by urban development and changes in the landscape.This artwork is set at Misashima Station on the Hokuetsu Express Hokuhoku Line. Using the tracks of the Hokuhoku Line—which has fostered new connections within the region since its opening in 1997—the artwork expresses the value and energy of connecting one place to another. Lighting installations positioned at the front and rear of a special train illuminate the straight tunnel in sync with sound. This is an experiential artwork that can only be viewed by passengers aboard the special train.

Echigo-Tsumari Art Field Day 2026

It’s back again this year! We’re holding the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field Day” at the NUNAGAWA Campus. Everyone is welcome to participate—from children to adults—regardless of nationality, age, or background. It’s a festival where you can fully immerse yourself in the nature, history, and cuisine of Echigo-Tsumari through art.

"Aura of Life" Workshop ~Let's Listen to the Voices of the Creatures in Our Hachi~ [Living Creatures Observation Workshop 2026]

The “Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art” embodies an art space designed to empower all living things, conceived by artist Seizo Tashima as a “Museum Where Living Things Emit an Aura.” This is the second installment of the “Aura of Life” workshop series, where participants listen to the voices of the creatures in Hachi’s works.We’ll be joined by biotope expert Hiroyuki Terada (KOKOPELLI+) to observe the many living creatures that call the museum home.

The Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET will host a workshop led by Mao Shibata, one of the participating artists in the Special Exhibition “Waterside ENNICHI in MonET—From Rice Balls to a Giant Maze,” currently on view as part of MonET2026.
