This is a popular program to enjoy riding on a big mountain sled. This year, the program will be held again at “Matsudai NOHBUTAI.” In the past, mountain sledding was a necessary means of transportation for people living in snow country. It took a lot of people to move the big sleds. The work of moving the sleds was a symbol of cooperation and collaboration among local communities. The disused sleds will be reused and held at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2024 as the “Mountain Sled Festival,” an event where people can enjoy carrying, pulling, and sliding the sleds.
