[Performers]Oka Makoto, Aikawa Hitomi, Uematsu Toru, Okabe Yoichi, Huruki keisuke, Echigo-Tsumari Kapukapu Ensemble 2024
The band named after the onomatopoeia “kapukapu” from Miyazawa Kenji’s short children’s story “Yamanashi” is led by musician Oka Makoto. Together with Oka, they create musical instruments from farming tools and folk implements that lie dormant in the region, and play music with those instruments. The members come from various regions, and most of them lead lives that are usually far removed from music. During rehearsals, they do not use sheet music but instead rely on Oka’s vocalizations such as “dondon” and “dadatta.” Please also enjoy the permanent installation artwork “Farming Tools are Musical Instruments!” (Location: Kamigo Clove Theater) by Oka Makoto + The Music Mill Project.
