Screening Schedule

1) Keisuke Sagiyama “Whisper of Imoana” (28.5 min.)
During my research visit, I learned that Tokamachi has a food storage facility called “Imo-ana” (potato hole). Unlike tunnels, the entrance and exit are the same, and it can be seen as a world protected from the harsh winters. Starting with the story of the hole and the voices spun out from the workshop with local elementary school students, I would like to record (store) a collection of words that lead from the past to the future with images. A short video in which the scenery and children surrounding the “potato hole” are gently transformed into a song.

2) Echigo the Impact: Bertolt Brecht in 2022″ (9.5 min.) by ➁SONTAKUZ (Yoshiki Tanaka, Morito Inoue)
This is a giant robot special effects film inspired by German playwright Brecht’s masterpiece “The Three-Penny Opera. Echigo the Impact plays a big role in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale! Let’s all cheer for Echigo the Impact in the long autumn nights.

(3) Hikaru Suzuki “I Couldn’t See the Bear” (12 min.)
He accompanied the people he met in Tokamachi on their bear hunting trip and ate bear hot pot, but did not see any bears, and ended up accompanying them on their river cormorant hunting trip. This is a photographic wandering video diary 2021, in which he met various people waiting for him and enjoyed multiple hot springs.

4) Hiroyuki Ohki “Todo Kaze Mix” (14.5 min.)
What is the spirit of the image?

5) Masahiro Wada, “If the mountains are clear, the people are benevolent; if the water is clear, the people are righteous” (23 min.)
Sansho Elementary School, established in the Meiji era, did not have a school song until 1956. After that, the school song was sung by the children and their parents until the school was closed in 1988, but the source of the song has been lost and now remains only in the memories of alumni and others involved. The school song and the alma mater in the memories of the local people, and the region that the artist, an outsider, peeked into, are now spun into a karaoke session.
