A special spring exhibition at Museum of Picture Book Art: This is where Maoshan Connie began her journey

Summary

We are pleased to present the exhibition featuring Maoshan Connie, a picture book artist and advocate of nature and animal protection in Hong Kong. The exhibition shows original drawings of her picture books as well as paintings of landscape and villagers of Hachi village. Connie met Seizo Tashima in summer 10 years ago while launching Museum of Picture Book Art which experience influenced her proceeding creation. The exhibition celebrates the 10-year history of the establishment of the museum and traces the journey that Connie has gone through.

Part of the exhibition will be changed in spring and summer.

About the Artists

Maoshan Connie

Born in Hong Kong 1987. After spending her childhood in different places across the globe, she studied and received MA in juvenile literature from Cambridge University. She joined Kohebi and participated in the launch of Museum of Picture Book Art during ETAT2009. She has developed her career as picutre book artist since then.

Seizo Tashima

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1940. Spent his childhood in Kochi prefecture. He has received many awards including Golden Apples prize at Bienále ilustrácií Bratislava in 1969 for “Chikara-Taro”. He has presented “Dorakujin and the children” in ETAT2013 and “Blue Sky Aquarium” in the former sanatorium on the Oshima Island during Setouchi Triennale 2013.

Hachi & Seizo Tashima Museum of Picture Book Art

※ The museum is closed during winter: from end of November to end of April
A walk-in picture book created by Seizo Tashima in 2009 in a former elementary school. The story behind this museum is based on the last three students of the school and visitors can physically experience the picture book as they walk through the museum. The space is filled with objects made of driftwood picked up in Izu Peninsula and from the Sea of Japan, reshaped to represent students, teachers, and even monsters.
