The Ishimatsu Laboratory is a research group dedicated to exploring design rooted in our immediate surroundings. We believe that when design acts as a bridge between people and their environment, daily life becomes even richer and more appealing. In addition to design, we engage in activities such as community-based installations, art projects, and environmental-themed art workshops, examining the environment from the perspectives of design and the visual arts. This summer, we will be operating a café with the goal of serving as a bridge between the local community and visitors. (Artist’s Comment)

Workshop

To celebrate the café’s opening, we are hosting a variety of workshops. The workshops are available during the café’s business hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

① Making Original Pin Badges

This is a workshop where you can create your own original pin badges using Takashi’s “Monode Washi” washi paper. Why not make your very own pin badge as a souvenir of your trip?

[Fee] 200 yen

② Making Your Own Original Fan

This workshop lets you create your own original mini fan using Takashi’s “Monode” washi paper and vegetable stamps. Let’s beat the summer heat with your very own fan!

[Fee] 300yen

③ Making Original Coasters

We’re selling the coasters we actually use when serving drinks at the café. They’re painted with the same color paint as the iju wall panels, so you can enjoy watching them age over time. This year, we’re holding a new stamp-making workshop where you can create your own original coaster featuring cute designs inspired by Tanokura.

[Price] 300 yen

Fox Tanokura

We’ll run while immersing ourselves in the role of Sankuro the Fox from the Tanokura folktale, enjoying the scenic, nature-rich landscape along the way.

[Date] Saturday, August 29, 2026 [Time] Reception begins at 8:30 a.m., event starts at 9:45 a.m., event ends at 1:00 p.m. [Fee] Adults: 2,500 yen; college students: 2,000 yen; high school students and younger: 1,500 yen (includes T-shirt)
