On the Occasion of the Opening of a Series of Exhibitions
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale has been working to revitalize the community through art. In order to make the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale even more community-based, we will explore new possibilities for the region and the arts, meet artists who will lead the future, and create new collaborations.Museum on Echigo-Tsumari (MonET) plans to organize a long-running series of exhibitions starting Every two months in 2023.

Idetsu Kyoko "Slow to Act."
Idetsu Kyoko is a mother of two children, ages 10 and 7. The reason why I introduce such a personal information is because such “life” is exuded in her works. For example, in the text accompanying “Midday festival,” she says, “Still, we have children, and we have no choice but to expose our faces to the daylight. It’s not fashionable or anything.” She wrote. It is the expression of such complex or natural feelings that gives her works a disquieting atmosphere beyond the silliness of children’s drawings.
Her works are highly acclaimed overseas, and for the past two years she has had a series of solo exhibitions at galleries in New York, Paris, and Los Angeles. In other words, it has been difficult to see her works in Japan, but for this exhibition, She will show more than 10 new works.
The exhibition was a mixture of fun, nostalgia, sadness, and honest feelings about the future. Please come and experience her world, where various emotions are mingled in a roundabout way.

Individual tickets (¥1,200 for adults / ¥600 for elementary and junior high school students)

Artist Profile
Idetsu Kyoko
Born in Tokyo in 1986 and currently lives there. Graduated from Tama Art University.

Hosaka Kenjiro (Director, The Museum of Art, Shiga)
Kenjiro Hosaka was born in Ibaraki in 1976. He worked at The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo from 2000 to 2008, and has been in his current position since 2021. Major exhibitions he has organized include “Francis Bacon Exhibition” (2013), “Logical Emotion: Contemporary Art from Japan” (2014-15), and “Koe-noma: Gozo Yoshimasu, Full-body Poet” (MOMAT, 2016). He is also a member of the “Visions of the City” nomination committee of the Obayashi Foundation and an expert member of the Art Promotion Working Group of the Cultural Economy Subcommittee of the Cultural Affairs Council of the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
