Lithography is a printing technique that utilizes the repulsive properties of water and oil to draw directly on a stone or metal plate that serves as a printing plate. It was used mainly for publishing newspapers during the Meiji period (1868-1912) because the hand-drawn texture can be printed as it is, and it is suitable for multi-color printing and mass printing.
