Kita Yusuke + Kita Lab., Nagaoka Institute of Design

Japan

The world is inherently fascinating as it is but the challenge lies in how to capture and present such fascination. The research project is being conduced to describe the “aspects” of cities and communities both within and outside Japan through fieldwork. As a part of research labo’s activities, the artist runs a project called “ヨイタタンサケイカク” (Strolling Yoita – Yoita Tansa Keikaku) in Yoitaka-cho, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. Kita, the representative of the project, is an author of “Strolling Through Cities and Aspect of Urban Spaces: Deciphering the Wholeness of Spatial Experience” (2023, Kyoto University Academic Press, recipient of the 11th Nojima Hisao Prize from Japan Cognitive Science Society). This project is currently undertaken by Kita and eleven students, ranging from fourth-year undergraduates to second-year master’s students.
