We recommend you on a driving course around the indoor artworks so that you can enjoy the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2024 even on a bad weather day. In the Tokamachi area, you will see a variety of works that make use of the architecture of the snow country, such as vacant houses, abandoned schools, and warehouses! For lunch, please enjoy a limited menu at "Ubusuna House," a 100-year-old thatched old house restaurant. *Please note that many facilities close at 16:00 in October and November.

10:05 Visit Echigo-Tsumari's leading contemporary art museum
[New] Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET
This is a base facility featuring works by prominent contemporary artists such as Nawa Kohei, Nakatani Michiko, and Me [mé]. A special exhibition "87-Day Square Adventure with Captain MonET" using the entire corridor and courtyard, as well as works by up-and-coming Ukrainian artists will be on display. Many works of art and a limited-time café where you can take a break are now open. At night, the lights are lit up and visitors can immerse themselves in a serene world view that differs from that of the day.

Let's enjoy a special exhibition "87-Day Square Adventure with Captain MonET." The artworks at the "Akashinoyu" where the special exhibition will also be exhibited. If you have time to spare, please enjoy the Onsen and the night lights after viewing the artworks.

"Ubusuna House" will be the stage for a two-dimensional work using Japanese paper joined with konnyaku glue. It is a spatial expression that starts with triangles and then multiplies into regular polygons. Through an interest in nature and human activities, visitors will see colorful works of art.

An old thatched-roof house has been restored as a pottery museum. The specialties are the daily small bowls of food prepared by local mothers using vegetables they grow themselves and the main dishes supervised by chef Arima Kuniaki. Please enjoy the hospitality of the energetic village mothers and their nourishing cuisine, which is good for both body and soul.

A kamaboko-shaped warehouse to reduce the burden from snow is developed as a work of art. This is an opportunity to experience the memories of people and places created by the building. In this project, which the artist will carry out together with students from his laboratory, everyday scenes will be turned into artworks through research on warehouses with various characteristics.
Kaihatsu Yoshiaki"Kamaboko Face"
Faces with various expressions appear in the kamaboko-shaped warehouses and garages that can be seen in large numbers in the area. Following advice from residents that "it is more interesting to have a variety of facial expressions," angry faces and crying faces were also created. Visitors are greeted by these warehouses with rich expressions, and the works of art make visitors smile unintentionally.

[New]Karekimata Project
This is an art project led by Yoshino Ohji, who have been developing the project continuously since 2009, and other volunteers at Kyoto Seika University. In addition to continuing artists who deal with important themes in the coexistence of humans and nature, such as landscape, agriculture, poultry farming, food, and circulation, the project also invites students, international students, up-and-coming young artists, and other artists from overseas to participate in the project and plan distinctive projects.

[Renewal]Sakao Koichi"Green room Project “Green house” "
This project started in 2006 and has been held in this building since 2012. In Echigo-Tsumari, fallen leaves are copied with green colored pencils to create leaves, and "greenery" has been growing together with visitors. However, due to the aging of the building, this is the last time this venue will be used. The rooms where previous works have been exhibited will be connected to create a "Green House," a work of art that will cover the entire venue. Through leaf making by visitors, we will give shape to the connection between the artworks and the local community and people.

The walls have been removed, leaving the structure of the house exposed.
