Tunnel of Light/Ma Yansong / MAD Architects
The first stop of this tour is Kiyotsu Gorge Tunnel, which has been popular since its opening to the public.
Kiyotsu Gorge is one of the three most beautiful gorges in Japan, created by 16 million years of earth history. Visitors can view the fusion of the beauty of the gorge and art in the 750-meter-long tunnel. The spectacular natural scenery, which changes with the seasons, is also a must-see.
Experiencing the nature of Satoyama
For Lots of Lost Windows/Utsumi Akiko
The window that reflects different landscapes depending on the season instills a sense of awe in viewers towards the nature of Echigo-Tsumari. The curtains, swaying differently depending on the weather, evoke the feeling of sunlight and the gentle breeze. The window, standing in harmony with nature, invites people to the breathtaking scenery of Echigo-Tsumari.
*Please do not climb on the artwork. It is extremely dangerous and may lead to damage to the work.
Park installed at the power plant
[NEW]The Objects from Another Place/Nikita Kadan
Nikita Kadan's new artwork will be exhibited at the Tokyo Electric Power Shinano River Power Plant Contact Tank. The park, made of mirror-finished metal, is a space where no one is allowed to enter. It is a space of unattainable happiness and at the same time, a place that evokes memories of a bygone childhood.
The place evokes memories that have accumulated over time
The Last Class/Christian Boltanski+Jean Kalman
Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman's work, which unfolds at the former Higashikawa Elementary School, allows you to experience the artwork with your entire body through faint light, the scent of straw grass, and the sound echoing in the corridors. Let's trace the history that has been accumulated in the school building, which is covered in snow for a long period of time.
Hands-on art for kids and adults
[NEW]NUNAGAWA Campus “Children's Museum of Five Senses Experience”
A school for practical learning of local values has been renovated into a museum for the five senses. With artists we will create a place where visitors can experience wood, light and sound with all five senses. FC Echigo-Tsumari is not only an activity base but also hosts the "Earth Sports Festival exective committiee" during the exhibition period.
TSUMARI KITCHEN
Chef Fumio Yonezawa, owner of "No Code" in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, has created a tour-only menu. The menu is a course-style meal using Tsumari pork and local vegetables, as only a chef who frequently visits Echigo-Tsumari and is deeply involved in the local culinary culture can create. (Photo: Image)
The concept is "urban-rural exchange."
[NEW]Matsudai NOHBUTAI Field Museum
Matsudai NOHBUTAI is the base facility for the Matsudai Nohbutai Field Museum. A new work will be added to the "Kabakov's Dream" project by Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, one of the artists who have come to symbolize the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. A short walk from the Nohbutai, visitors can also visit the Matsudai History Museum and artworks in the Joyama area.
[NEW]Matsudai History Museum
The "Local History Museum" is a two-story wooden house with an irori (traditional Japanese hearth) and tatami rooms, located within the premises of the "Nou Butai" (Agricultural Stage). It exhibits and preserves folk tools, agricultural implements, and materials that provide insights into the history and lifestyle of Matsushiro. During the exhibition period, there will also be displays by artists who continue to present works inspired by the local landscapes and history.
