Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art, KINARE: “Dream of a place” by Masahiro Hasunuma

Summary

Masahiro Hasunuma experienced the transformation of seasons from black-and-white winter to spring filled with soft light to summer under the burning sun during his stay produced twelve stories of flip-book featuring characteristics of Echigo-Tsumari, ranging from picking up sansai, rice planting, driving on the snowy road.
The artist refers to “dream” in the exhibition title asking himself and us “dream is something happens in your head and yet you don’t know what will happen next. Is what we see in the dream only belonging to you? A dream may be an independent existence like bacteria living in our body.
Enjoy the story featuring Echigo-Tsumari consisting of reality and imagination. The artwork was originally presented in an old minka house during ETAT2015 and will be presented again with some new editions.
Enjoy also the permanent collections by world-renowned artists, shopping and eating experience at the cafe.

“Calling for little painters” by YORIKO

YORIKO, the artist invites children to draw pictures for new products. Your drawing of vegetables will be captured digitally and you can take them as key-ring away home. You don’t have to worry if you are good at drawing or not. Looking forward to having you on board!

About artists

Masahiro Hasunuma

Born in Tokyo in 1981. Artist and documentary photographer. Completed PhD with Tokyo University of the Arts Using in 2010. Using mural, animation (Kinora), and photograph as a medium for expression, he has been exploring the autonomy of stories and images and keen about the mystery of dream. Main projects include “field work with a pigeon” and “self-portrait workshop”, “reinvention of a mural of shadow by Jiro Takamatsu, Yokohama Triennale 2005), “Self-portrait on a slope”. Major participated exhibitions include ETAT 2015 (Niigata), and Shinano Primitive Sense Art Festival (Omachi-city, Nagano).

YORIKO

Born in Saitama in 1987. The artist has been running various art projects in different places across Japan engaging “collaboration with people of different generations and different backgrounds”. She has participated in ETAT2018, Hachinohe Portal Museum AIR (2015), Takamatshi AIR (2016), Nakanojo Biennale (2017).
