[NOHBUTAI Field Museum Exhibition]Kano Tetsuro “Abstract maps, Concrete territories”

Summary

The diverse materials are not simply binary opposites, such as man-made/natural, machine-made/handcrafted, concrete/abstract, organic/inorganic, and so on.

In this exhibition, such materials are reconfigured and displayed as works of art, divorced from their original context and function.

The objects on display invite the viewer to imagine a variety of meanings.
If a bird, rather than a human being, encounters this work – the bird might drink water from a dish, or it might like or dislike a particular color.

The artist, who has a hunting license, composes his installations with an awareness of the existence of such “other viewpoints” outside of the imagination.

About the exhibition venue

The exhibit is located in the Matsudai NOHBTAI Field Museum, in a satoyama area that is home to a variety of living creatures.
The land used to be rice paddies, and although cedar trees were planted, they were not used as timber and are now a pleasant forest that is cool in summer.

By using this work as an opportunity to think about this place, the creatures that live there, and the history of the land, you may find yourself imagining a more distant past or future, or even a different world altogether.
