Yomogi-shobu (mugwort iris) and rice field vacation experience

Summary

Yomogi-shobu is a traditional event held on the Boys’ Festival of the lunar calendar. The participants make bundles of tansies and leaf irises into a sword-like shape and strike them against each other, and also walk along the banks of the rice paddies while striking them, hoping for good health and the elimination of harmful insects.
The rice field rest is to take a rest after the busy rice planting season. In the past, people would relax by eating rice wrapped in “hoku-no-ha gohan,” which is rice wrapped in magnolia leaves and covered with soybean flour. Please try the fresh-smelling rice with magnolia leaves.
