【2023 Winter】Museum on Echigo-Tsumari Special Exhibition：“Echigo-Tsumari : The Aspects of Snow”

Summary

workshop For families

Winter in Echigo-Tsumari, one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan. To reconsider the appeal of snow, 4 artists will perform contemporary art inside and outside the museum. The snow creates a new visual effect with the artworks made by metal materials and reflective artworks. The snow also creates a new visual effect, giving visitors a new perspective on the architecture of the museum. Even in the midst of months of cloudy weather, you will enjoy the changing appearance of the artworks as the snow falls.

EVENT

"Hanekkeshi" in Shinsui village

Let’s experience an old game handed down in the village. “Hanekkeshi” is Shinzui village is that people play shuttlecock with “kosuki,” an old snow removal tool.

*One entry with a special exhibition ticket or a winter common ticket.

Related Event; “Village Hospitality”
Shinsui’s Hanekkeshi masters will teach you how to play the game. Local mothers will entertain you with food.

*You could view the artwork from inside until 17:00.

Night Museum
With the Tokamachi Snow Festival, the museum will be open at night for one day only.
[Date & Time] 2/18(Sat), 16:30 – 20:00 (last entry at 19:30)
[Admission] ¥1,200 for adults, ¥600 for elementary and junior high school students (re-entry on the same day is permitted)
*It is not possible to experience the work “Steps” and “Shinsui no Hanekeshi” after 17:00.

Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET “Great Snowfield Voyage with Captain MonET”

The Museum on Echigo-Tsumari, MonET presents “Great Snowfield Voyage with Captain MonET,” the second installment of a special exhibition following the highly successful “87-Day Square Adventure with Captain MonET” at the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2024”. This is a site-specific special exhibition featuring nine artists from Japan and abroad, including existing artists.
