About the artwork

The theme of this work is a world that extends vertically, encompassing “the earth, waterways, ecosystems, and the universe.” Various forms of energy radiate from the earth and the cosmos. The radiation that illuminates the sky during earthquakes originates from deep within the earth, while in space, cosmic rays are generated by the Birth of Stars and the death of stars—specifically, the massive explosions known as supernovae. Neutrinos are one such form of cosmic ray. From the birth of the universe to the present day, vast quantities of cosmic rays have been racing through time and space.We do not know whether the cosmic rays captured by light originated in ancient times or were emitted by the sun. However, it is certain that we are observing fragments of time. When the sensor detects cosmic rays—more than 200 of which pass through our bodies every second—the blue LEDs installed inside the Kyoro Tower light up, while the red LEDs underwater turn off.It is said that in space, the opposite phenomenon occurs due to the same cause. We aimed to create a space where the Ground, Water, and Cosmos of Matsunoyama can be experienced as one.
