Kabata Chihiro and Kabata Yuri are sisters and artists. They usually present their works independently but occasionally collaborate on projects which creative process is rooted in dialogue. In the work “Utsushi ni Kushiku (Unknown Landscape)” presented in 2012 which addressed the theme of the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake explored the question, “is art possible in the face of catastrophe?” In their 2024 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, they attempt to literary clear snow in a heavily snowed area by their work, “Snow unknown to the sky”.
