Born in Portugal in 1939, currenly based in Portugal and France. During Guimarães’ stay in Angola in the 1960s and 1970s, he was influenced by the symbolism of African
art through exchanges with specialists in African ethnology. He has created works that seem to permeate the different visual expressions of Europe and Africa. His works
are in the collections of museums around the world, including Portugal, Japan, and Germany.
