“Kohebi-tai” is a volunteer team that supports several activities of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennnale. Kohebi members support a wide range of activities such as artwork management, artwork production, welcoming guest, tour guide, snow clearing, farm work and helping local communities.
“Kohebi-tai” transcends generations, genres, and regions, with more than 3,000 people from all over Japan and overseas, mainly from Echigo-Tsumari area and the Tokyo capital city area, and members of a wide range of age groups from high school students to people in their 80s participating in the programs. Kohebi-tai plays an active role as a leader in community development.
Supporter activities are not “experiential learning” conducted under the protection and supervision of someone, nor are they “organizations” where goals, rules and leaders exist. At Kohebi-tai, we discover what each of us wants to make use of, and work with responsibility and awareness.
