The summer season of "Echigo-Tsumari in 2023" has finally started!

The summer season begins with all the films finally being released to the public! Not only will 230 works be open to the public, but also 13 exhibitions and 16 events will be held. Please come to Echigo-Tsumari with your family this summer.

Nunagawa Campus

Ito Makoto ”Look Up to the Sky”

Ito Makoto hands-on exhibition “Look Up to the Sky” will be held at Nunagawa Campus. Wearing a mirrored surface, visitors will be able to walk while looking at the scenery above their heads, which they would not normally be able to see.

Matsumoto Akinori “Making Sound Object”

Let’s make “Chikuonkin”, an original musical instrument, supervised by Matsumoto Akinori, an artist, at Nunagawa campus. The “Chiku-On-Kin” is an original musical instrument that produces tones through the mysterious movement of hanging bamboo pieces. This workshop is a two-part schedule that not only allows participants to make and take home their own instruments, but also allows them to play various original instruments specially created by the artists. Parents and children can also enjoy the workshop.

FC Echigo-Tsumari Soccer School
FC Echigo-Tsumari coaches and players will conduct a soccer school. Everyone from children to adults can enjoy.

to the woods "Berry spoon"

Berry Spoon, located in Nakago Green Park, is open for one month only in the summer. Around the cute kamaboko-shaped building is a pesticide-free berry field grown by local mothers. Visitors can participate in a jam-making workshop using freshly picked berries. A coffee shop is also open inside the building!

Ohtaka Sizzle &Tashima Seizo Exhibition; Sizzle! Stay here forever.

Sizzle Ohtaka, a voice artist who has created a unique non-genre musical world by freely manipulating her seven-color voice, has developed a number of performances even before the launch of the Museum of Picture Book and Nut Art in 2009. In this exhibition, we will showcase the path that Sizzle Ohtaka has taken so far, as well as the works created by artist Seizo Tajima that are full of her feelings.

Sizzle Ohtaka Tribute Live “Sizzling! Stay here forever -feat. Komacchakurezuma-“.
Komacha Kurezuma, led by Kazutoki Umezu, who collaborated with Sizzle Ohtaka on the CDs “Toperatoto no Odori” and “Supponpon,” will appear at the Museum of Picture Book and Fruit Art this summer after a long absence. Let’s enjoy singing and dancing together with Sizzlin’s thoughts in heaven!

Hong Kong House Exhibition: "A Double Listen: Yama no Oto" by Toolbox Percussion

The exhibition will be based on sound with toolbox percussion. It features a variety of sound artists and composers and challenges the practice to cross over into other fields. The sound-emitting objects create a playful and meditative sound experience.

Akiyamago Oakasawa Branch School Project (tentative)" supervised by Fukasawa Takafumi

Akiyama-go was once exempted from compulsory education by the government due to the depth of snow. This summer, artists who have conducted research on Akiyamago’s folk customs, beliefs, history, and technology will express their unique ideas. On the first floor, Koji Yamamoto’s work, “Phlogiston,” is on permanent display. Kawamata Tadashi "Open Atelier in Tsumari Archive Center" (public production)

All documents of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale to date, as well as a site-specific archive preserving  Kawamata Tadashi’s activities from 1980 to 2005, are open to the public. The Atelier Gallery, Kawamata’s base of operations, was also opened to the public, and a new permanent installation was created on the outside of the building. The artist Kawamata Tadashi will also hold “Open Atelier in Tsumari Archive Center” on the following dates.

Isobe Yukihisa Memorial: Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu SoKo Museum of Art[SoKo]: Special Exhibition

This summer, the gymnasium was renovated into a warehouse museum that also serves as a large storage room and gallery for artworks, and the school building was renovated into a permanent exhibition space for a group of works by Yukihisa Isobe, an artist closely associated with the Art Festival. This summer, a dynamic group of works by not only Yukihisa Isobe, but also Tadashi Kawamata, Tatsuo Kawaguchi, Seizo Tajima, and others, all of whom are representative artists of the Art Triennale and active on the international stage, will be on display.

”Tanokura D.I.Y. House iju" / cafe iju

Created in Tanokura village with the support of village residents and designers, it is a club to support smooth migration for immigrants with a D.I.Y. theme. Omusubi sets (500 yen) are also available at “Cafe Iju.

Kamigo Clove Theatre Restaurant (2023 Summer)

Produced by EAT&ART TARO, the event will start with local women from Kamigo and Tsunan (onnasho), who will serve dishes in a cheerful and fun theatrical style for a limited time with a different theme each year.

Offical bus tour

This is a one-day bus tour with lunch and guide, departing from and arriving at Echigo-Yuzawa Station, perfect for those who are anxious about going by car and cannot drive. You will tour the Echigo-Tsumari region with a guide.

Model Course

Individuals and families who want to enjoy the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale but do not know how to visit the different artworks that are open to the public on different days of the week…. This is a great one-day model course for those who want to enjoy the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale with their family or friends.


■Accommodations

Visitors can also stay overnight in artworks created in vacant houses or in lodgings converted from abandoned schools. The lodging experience itself can become a part of the art.
