Summary
We are inviting proposals of artworks and performances to be presented during Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2021, planned to be held from end July to mid September 2021. The chosen artworks are expected to highlight the unique history and culture of Echigo-Tsumari region and feature distinctive and abundant nature that has the power to raise awareness of Echigo-Tsumari internationally.

* The Project office will allocate the most appropriate site for a proposed project.

Eligibility
Anyone with an appreciation of the concept of ETAT.
* References: Catalogues from previous ETAT (2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018), “Art Place Japan: The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale and the vision to Reconnect Art and Nature” (Princeton Architectural Press), and “Hiraku Bijutsu: Chiiki to Ningen no Tsunagari wo Torimodosu” (Chikuma Shinsho).

Submission period
Wednesday  15 – Friday 31 July 2020 by 17:00 Tokyo time (no hand delivery will be accepted).
(changed from Monday 15 to Tuesday 30 June 2020)

Complete set of application should be delivered by post or courier to the project office by 17:00 (Tokyo Time) on Friday 31 July 2020. We are afraid that we will not accept hand delivery.

Number of artworks to be selected
Approximately 10（Number may vary depending on various conditions）

How to apply
Please pay the entry fee in advance and submit necessary documents listed in the application guidelines if paying by bank transfer.

If paying through Paypal, please arrange the payment according to an e-mail instruction you will receive from the project office. (Please note that those who don’t have a Japanese bank account must make the payment via Paypal.)

Submission materials
In case it is difficult to send the complete set of application by post due to the COVID-19, you may submit them by email.
①Application form. Please attach on the top of the following materials.
②A Proposal of your project (artwork/performance) with the following details：
Title of the artwork, concept, brief description, production methods, materials, size, production schedule, budget (including income and expenditure plan if the project is to generate income), drawing, photo of a model, or diagram explaining the project.
* Concept and description of the proposed project should not exceed 400 characters in Japanese or half page of A4 size paper in English.
③CV or portfolio (supporting documents to help understand the proposed project.)
* Format for submission: Staple ①, ②, ③ together. They should be smaller than A3 and no more than 10pages. (Documents in a file or on a panel will not be accepted.)
④ A copy of entry fee payment for those who have a bank account in Japan and made the entry fee payment by bank transfer.(*If paying via Paypal, please follow an email instruction you will receive from the project office after your submission will have received.)
⑤A CD-ROM containing electric data of ①-③ (in the form of PDF、JPEG、MS Office (Word,PowerPoint))
※ Submitted materials will not be returned. Language for the submission materials should be either Japanese or English.

Conditions and guidelines
Number of proposals: Up to three proposals per artist/group
Conditions on the proposed project: No restrictions on size, materials, and weight.
Conditions on site/environment：In principle, the site at which the proposed project is installed should be restored its original condition at the conclusion of ETAT. If the site has functional elements, these should be maintained throughout the duration of ETAT.
Conditions during ETAT： Proposed project should be in good condition throughout the duration of ETAT2021 (approx. 50days) from end July to mid September 2021. In case of a performance, it should be presented for at least once during ETAT2021.

Awards
・Participation in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2021
・Subsidy of the production cost (between JPY500,000 and JPY2,500,000)
* Final amount of the subsidy will be decided according to the proposed budget plan.
* Subsidy may cover transportation, accommodation and creation cost of the proposed project.

2nd Screening: Interview as appropriate/ Site inspection
* The Project Office will contact those who pass the first screening.
* We are afraid that we will not answer any inquires on the result of selection.

Announcement of participating artists
Will be uploaded on the ETAT official website.(*Schedules will be announced later on the official website)
Copyright and ownership ・Copyright of the proposed project belongs to the applicant.
・Ownership of the accepted project in principle belongs to the ETAT organiser.
・Proposed materials such as drawings and images of the project will be used for free of charge in the ETAT official website, ETAT2021 Official guidebook, printed materials such as flyer, catalogue, press release and any other promotional materials that the project office regards necessary.

Handling of the submitted materials
Submitted materials will not be returned. Preservation or disposal of these materials is at the discretion of the organiser.

Entry fee
JPY1,000 per project
