About the artwork

In a grass meadow growing like mushrooms, these small white houses look as if they were made of snow. The houses in Urada district were each studied and models of 170 homes still occupied were made. Tsukikage-no-sato (village of moonlight) was started in 2001 as a team project between four university study groups, in the restored primary school building. Focus was placed on the innovative roofs designed for a region that experiences heavy snow falls. After the exhibition when the installation was being removed, the residents were asked if they wished to keep the models, and over half requested for them.
