About the artwork

Echoes of History and Memory Within Echigo Tsumari’s ‘Stone Monuments’
This video installation by the artist delves into themes that transcend time and space. Reflecting on the significance of nature, the artist remarked, “The stones bear witness to moments of awe and reverence for nature. Unforgettable memories, from accidents and disasters to wars, are etched into these stones.” Through photographs of stone Buddhas, monuments, and other structures abundant in the Echigo-Tsumari region, the installation captures the essence of the area, rich with historical and cultural significance.
