About the artwork

For this work a curved earthen wall is surrounded by terracotta objects inserted in individual pipes. The installation is located on the grounds of the Senju Shrine, which are surrounded by Japanese cedar trees. This shrine is the setting for the tale of Princess Konohanasaku, which is found in the “Kojiki”, the oldest of Japanese histories. The sacred rope which marks the boundary of the space was woven by students at the local elementary school.
