The yama kasa is the large conical hat that local people wear when they are doing the farming and is one of the symbols of life in the satoyama. The artist designed original kasa with motifs typical of Echigo-Tsumari such as semicylindrical storehouses, snow crystals, rice grains, etc. made from cloth and attached to the kasa. A new scene is generated when visitors and local people wear these kasa on their heads and walk around the village and the satoyama. The local people are very happy that something which, for them, is an everyday item used in daily life, has become an artwork, and these kasa are sold in many places.
