About the artwork

The waiting room, treatment room and examination room of a former dentist’s office are illuminated with blue light. This installation gives us a sense of the time that has passed. This artist, who also participated in the previous Triennial, felt that Tokamachi had become more alive during the intervening years. “Artists from many countries created works with the people of the community or with materials that are familiar to the people. The lack of a common language also highlighted the art of communication. The works made through collaborative efforts have given new power to the place, transcending borders of culture and language. I do not know any international exhibition than this Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial that is so consistent in its concept and realization.” (Nan Hoover)
