The triangular column around a tree in the garden of Yokoji Temple in Matsunoyama is the announcement board for my plans for my work in the 2006 Triennial. When I stepped into the precincts of Yokoji, I felt the deep power of the place. What can I say about the relationship between the plants, buildings and geography of this place, and especially the beauty of the moss-covered ground and the flowers growing between the mosses? Not as carefully groomed as temples in Kyoto, Yokoji, for me, embodies the appropriate and natural relationship between man and nature. I hoped to create a work that would not spoil its atmosphere and would be deeply in harmony with the special relationships of nature, time, and memory found in this place.
