Cocoon House was opened in 2006, handing down a remembrance of sericulture and of Yomogihira’s lost silkworm tradition. For this work, 10,000 silkworms were raised in the village for the first time in decades. The artist’s interaction with the community continued, and alongside it this revitalized sericulture. In 2009, a mulberry field of 150 seedlings was planted to provide the silkworms’ food. The “scenery of sericulture” once such a part of the area is now being revived. The development and sale of “cocoon goods,” local products with a fresh appeal, is also spreading in popularity.
