The Test Tube Project goal is to give visible form to the interior aspect of a town by accumulating the feelings of the residents of Matsudai about their community. Residents take for granted their feelings about the town—what they like about it and what they find inconvenient—and thus do not articulate them. The project captures those feelings in the form of words and images that are enclosed in test tubes, creating a physical locus where the participating individuals’ works ( their usually unstated feelings) accumulate. Creating this place allows us, the outsiders, a grimpse of Matsudai’s potential and of attractions of life in it that are normally invisible to us.
