About the artwork

This group of artists has been presenting their works in the same place since 2003. They created 2,000 objects resembling snow crystals out of 48,000 sheets of waterproof origami paper and suspended them in a vacant lot in an urban area damaged by the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Earthquake, aiming to capture the moment of snowfall. About 1,000 people, artists and local residents alike, participated in making the geometric objects out of origami. Under the summer sky, a world of snow appeared as though time had been frozen. The numerous “snow crystals” that people had folded created a new scene, bridging the present and the future.
