Nanawa area was formed by developing filed and rice paddies in Shinza village. Although it is a new suburb with people from different villages in Tokamachi as well as from the centre of the city, they are strongly bonded together. Nanawa Disaster Management Centre is central to the community and it continues to host traditional events while at the same time introducing new activities. One of the driving forces is snow. I felt that snow nurtures shared space and art in this community. I will build a monument symbolizing that – by “Kumatake” snow dump, one of the essential snow removal tools invented in Shinza.
