On the Fukagawa Museum Road Shopping Street, in downtown Tokyo, the “Scarecrows Contest” is held every year for the purpose of community revitalization and communication. A parade of scarecrows in grand Tokyo style came to the green terraced paddies to marry into Japan’s top rice production area. “If the scarecrows drive birds away, the Fukagawa scarecrows catch people.” The landowner took care of them during the Triennial period, and about 20 brides married into the area.
