Ukanome is the goddess of food. The artist created about 13,800 strings of rice, each 45 centimeters long with rice grains attached to it. These were tied together for length and suspended from the ceiling. Utensils left behind in the house hang in between the strings of rice, evoking various aspects of the past: the bowls, chopsticks and pots of the dining table, the altar of the ancestors of those who lived here, and the farming implements of rice cultivation. There is a mirror in the hearth, so that it appears as though the rice is connected to another dimensional space.
