About the artwork

Inubushi is a lively community where traditional folk entertainment such as Matsuo drums and a “naked festival” thrive. The artist initiated efforts to invigorate traditional local industry by developing original Japanese paper in collaboration with Inubushi craftspeople. A powerful artwork combining wood and original Japanese paper is displayed in a fifty-year-old house. Illuminated with vivid lighting, the Japanese paper reveals its distinctive softness. Fans and other small objects that were developed using Japanese paper have proved popular. Production and sale of original Japanese paper will continue after the triennial is over.
