This was a project to create a rainbow over the village. A massive curtain of mist was made so that a rainbow would appear when sunlight penetrated it. The rainbow only appeared for approximately 10 minutes in the afternoon on a sunny day. The artist carefully chose this spot overlooking the village by considering, among other factors, the position of the sun during the Triennial. The “Rainbow-Making Machine” was switched on in a ceremonial manner, accompanied by festive drum music. The music was a traditional composition by the village of Hachi that is played by children at school. For this piece, village residents participated by playing the music.
