About the artwork
“HARLEM” reads this sign, modeled on the famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign, but set up on a snow fence near the top of Mt. Shorinji, overlooking the town of Matsudai. The message is a tribute to the wealth of natural beauty to be found in Tsumari as well as an ironic comment on the hegemony of Western culture and its incursions into other cultures.
