About the artwork

An area representing one second in latitude and longitude was created on the hillside of a mountain park that is visible from throughout the Tsunan area. Employing used chopsticks collected by local people through the course of one year, the artist attempted to gaze at the “time” residing in the scenery nurtured there. On the final evening, the chopsticks were burned as a “fire for sending off ancestors,” and in the autumn, a firework display made it possible to visualize the size of the area equivalent to five minutes of longitude within the grad space of rice terraces spreading in the darkness.
