The artist who has been taking part in the Karekimata Project since its launch, and also serves as its representative, focused on “roofs” symbolizing the protection of people’s lives, and “the people of Karekimata district.” The roof protects people from the harsh climate of this region, especially during the heavy snowfall of winter, when the community engages in yukihori to remove snow from rooftops. The people of Karekimata have strived to protect the land, and thrived despite the harsh environment. The sculpture resembles both a scarecrow and a balancing toy, symbolizing the people of this region. The title, Peaceful life, honors the spirit and philosophy of independence of the people of Karekimata.
