About the artwork

“Palianytsia” in Ukraines means a piece of round bread. It is a word that is difficult to pronounce for non-native Ukraine speakers and thus used to tell whether you are a spy or not. In March 2022, Kadyrova took refuge from Kyiv in the war to a mountain village in western Ukraine, collected stones from the river, and began to create an object of bread with Dennis Luban. Bread is a symbol of happiness, life, and peaceful life. The first work that the artist who had lost a peaceful everyday life because of the war created was a bread that seems to represent his wish for normality and peace to return again. The sale of the object will be donated to the citizens of Ukraine. “When the war broke, I felt that the art was fragile like a dream. However, I now believe that the art will help my voice be heard.”
