Storehouses in this region have a semi-cylindrical, arched shape to prevent snow accumulation. This storehouse, a familiar element of local life in a land of heavy snowfall, has been turned into the smallest museum in the world. (*)When they visited the opening of the Little Utopian House, the local people wrer proud of their new meeting room. It was the first time that I was able to see the political and poetic realities of our human position on this earth. The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial is truly a “utopia founded on rice,” the “ultra local utopia.”
