The artist set up the Light Garden in the gymnasium of a former branch school. The flowers, packaged in more than ten thousand light-emitting cassette cases, were supplied for two months by local flower shops. In addition, lotus-growing local people sent vehicle-loads of “two-thousand-year-lotus” flowers, which have more petals than usual ones. The work consists of these flowers. Maps drawn on Japanese paper and photographs of the old days, which had been kept by the community, were also displayed, bringing back memories of the school.
