The inspiration for this work drew heavily on the artist’s own childhood experiences. As an artist who moved to another country before mastering the language, she described the world as being “like a silent movie that was stifling, and yet beautiful.” The artist claims that she experienced a similar breathtaking sensation upon seeing the landscape of Karekimata. On the second floor of Karekimata Branch School used as the venue, the classrooms and corridor were connected with drawings of rope ladders, with each classroom appearing to represent a panel of a comic strip. The artist concluded her statement with a wish that “people will lose themselves in the wordless story.” The work offered visitors the experience of becoming delightfully lost.
