About the artwork

Bringing to life a community-driven endeavour: rediscovering Konuki’s heritage
Located in the Konuki settlement within the “inactive village” of Nakajo, Tobiwatari, this marks the second phase of a project aimed at resurrecting the social fabric of yesteryears through anthropological methodologies. With the wholehearted collaboration of former residents, Mr. Niwano Sansho and Mr. Niwano Takeichi, it expands upon the corridor-style settlement meticulously recreated in the previous exhibition titled “It was all fun in the past – from cultural anthropological fieldwork,” delving deeper into historical communal practices such as “funeral rites” and “youthful pastimes.
