About the artwork

I will temporarily occupy a hill with a good view this summer as my workshop to create spoons and plates. I will be given the branches of trees of Echigo-Tsumari which were broken by the weight of snow in winter and carve them. Some people may buy what I make and others may exchange it for food. There is an old saying which goes “hollow shapes bring good luck”. I will pass spoons to those who look after me with gratitude and as I wish for their long life. I will ride a bike and go down the hill when the weather is good and open a small shop in the park facing the river. (The artist’s comment)
