Using dialog between the people of Karekimata and students and graduates of Kyoto Seika University as its core, this project was created using themes “memory” and “putting into motion,” which were generated during the exchange. A total of six artists, comprised of faculty and students studying three-dimensional art forms, held exhibitions, performances and workshops in the abandoned primary school. For ETAT2015 the team presented artworks under the theme of “memory” and “beginning” at the school buliding as well as within the village for the first time.
In 2018 the Karekimata Project entered its 10th year. This year, in addition to Haruyuki Uchida and Ohji Yoshino, who have been continuously developing their projects in the region, Albert Yonathan Setyawan, Nana Hirose & Kazuma Nagatani and LIU Lijie will participate. Setyawan (Indonesia) and Liu (China) are both in the doctoral course at Kyoto Seika University, and shows constantly in Japan and abroad. Nana Hirose & Kazuma Nagatani, alumni of Kyoto Seika University, live and work in Germany. Based on the achievements and relationship with Karekimata thus far, we would hope to ivite viewers to experience the messages through the artists’ site-specific installations that are connected to both life and poetic imagination.
