About the artwork

Intimately connected to the region and its people, this art project is the creation of a novel living space, a new artistic expression for the 21st century. Continuing a connection with Echigo-Tsumari stretching back ten years, the artist uses the former Shimizu Primary School as the setting for this compilation of the wisdom of art projects from around the globe in a research institute. Throughout the Triennial, a diversity of guests were invited to join in organized events including open seminar and forum discussion. The institute itself, as well as accommodating researchers, became a base for their study, and is still in operation.
