About the artwork

Standing in earth, in a space surrounded by earth, and by observing the earth, the artist created a place expressing the power possessed by earth. Three pits were dug, each expressing “the earth filled with wealth,” “earth for nurturing life,” and “earth for nurturing culture,” and were connected by a passage. The production period was not blessed by good weather, being marked by day after day of pouring rain, and the artist spent several months literally in the mud, carrying soil, carrying stones, and struggling face-to-face with earth.
